Name Karen ChanAbout Born and raised in Ottawa, Karen Chan studied Fine Arts and Kinesiology at University of Waterloo. She found her calling drawing motion and helping people move. She is an Interdisciplinary Studies student at University of British Columbia, on loan from the Bachelor of Applied Arts Illustration program at Sheridan College. This bundle of energy is a study in contrasts. She is equally at home drawing surgical diagrams, painting vibrant landscapes, or capturing bodies in motion. Art is a universal tool that can educate, inspire, communicate and innovate. Karen captures moments in time primarily with acrylic, watercolour, marker pens, and more recently with wood/found objects in sculpture. Today her dynamic graphic images enrich public and private spaces in Vancouver, Ottawa, Waterloo and Toronto. She takes great interest in art as a health promotion tool and a vehicle to help others express inner thoughts. Currently residing in Vancouver, she will be studying nursing in September, with the eventual goal of using art as patient therapy. Her illustration clients include the BC Cancer Agency, Terry Fox Research Institute, Ubyssey, Princess Margaret Hospital, Charles Stuart Modelling Agency and Lisgar Vox Lycei. |
